Title:
PRR 9615, AF-16, 1952
Description:
Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by John Dziobko, Jr., that was taken at the Passenger Station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 25 July 1952. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9615 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by the American Locomotive Company. #9615 is an AF-16 constructed in May of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in July of 1966 after just 15 years of revenue service. In this context, this A-B-A set has just come down the East Slope of the Allegheny Mountains with a mixed-cargo freight train ~ thus the brakeshoe smoke. Partially visible at the right is the Station's venerable trainshed. Photo taken from the 12th Street Footbridge. ("Stoneborobranch"; #1 of 19)
