Craig and I had been planning a Deshler day for a few weeks, and the day was finally here. The morning started out sunny and crisp. We got a little bit later of a start than we were hoping, so we ended up beginning our day on CSX at Defiance. That ended up being the right choice as M367 was coming west with a SD70MAC leader, and it was already west of Deshler. Eastbound traffic was to come first, however. We worked west out of Defiance to get away from shadows still covering the tracks and caught CSX I168 to start our day, which also had a SD70MAC leader. Looks good in that golden light! |

The ND&W begins their day in Defiance with the leased LTE GP15-1. Despite there being Patriot Rail Geeps marked for ND&W out there now, it seems they have all been moved to other properties, and with the 2026 and 105 out of service, they have opted to lease this engine instead. Its only been here for a few months now. Not sure how long it will be here, but for now, it seems to be used as much as any of the other engines. |

Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio had received a nice coating of ice over the previous weekend. It was my hope that I would be able to get some photos with some ice, but I didnt have a ton of luck around home. However, when we began moving further east, we ran into more ice. The patch of trees on the east side of Hamler were glittering beautifully, and we knew we had to try to get at least one train through here. Sure enough, we had two westbounds coming; a M252 off the Toledo Sub and B157 was coming west on the Garrett Side at the same time. Unfortunately, the B157 caught up with the M252 by the time they reached Hamler, but not quick enough to get it out ahead of the M252, so we didnt get a well lit race and we had to cross to the other side. Oh well, the trees looked great on either side! |

Things got quite slow after I115. Our next train was M560 coming north, but thanks to a trap over the Leipsic diamond, it was parked in Leipsic for quite some time before it was able to get moving again. Wyatt joined up with us and we waited out the train. Eventually, it slowly made its way around the southeast connection and began its eastward trek to New York. |

I convinced Craig to take us into McComb to shoot the L70 through the cemetery. We still arent sure why, but it took Fort Wayne forever to clear them up out of the siding. We ended up waiting much longer than we had hoped, but we did eventually get L70 doing every bit of trackspeed by the cemetery as planned. By this point, the light was about gone, and we planned to call it a day. Coming into Leipsic we did accidently miss 272 because Craig had locked out the Fostoria District frequency so we never heard it calling signals. But, it happens, so L70 ended up being our final train of the day. A slow day, but a good day with some good friends! |
