ATSF 2-10-2 #3290 - Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe
Description:
This loco had an interesting life. In 1911, the ATSF Shops in Topeka, KS, cobbled together two 2-10-2 locos to make a massive 2-10-10-2 "Santa Fe Mallet". Unfortunately it was not sucessful so between 1915-17, the Shops broke the loco apart into separate 2-10-2's again. This was one of the rear halves and was renumbered first as ATSF 2-10-2 #3016. It was renumbered in 1952 to ATSF 3290 just before being retired. No photographer, date, or location was given for the photo so the date and location are approximate guesses.
