FM. Here is a duplicate 35mm B&W slide of a photo by Fred McLeod that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 4 July 1950. Photo Caption: "Double 2-10-0 engines get a run on heavy-duty freight heading for the Horseshoe. July 4, 1950." Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4424, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during June of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in August of 1944, and retired in January of 1953 after 30 years of faithful service. Photo taken near the Passenger Station, across the tracks from some of the 12th Street Car Shops visible in the background. Wave to the Engineman! This photo comes from a slide set entitled "Horseshoe Curve, Pennsylvania Railroad" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (22-29). |
