History - Built by Baldwin, 3/1930, According to several steam authorities, the S-2 class was used in dual service but best fit for fast passenger service. One note by Charles Wood states "Long winded engines, fast and durable, their only fault was a tendency to be very slippery when starting a heavy train." The class lasted into the 1950's and even a few into the early 1960's with several improvements along the way like Timken roller bearings in 1945. Specs - serial #61236, class S-2, oil burner, 80" drivers, 29 x 29 cylinders, a 225 psi boiler pressure, a weight of 420,900 lbs and a tractive effort of 58,300 pounds.
